Always seek permission to visit mine sites - never trespass.

Remember that in many cases the mineral rights (and therefore access underground) may not be controlled by the current land owner - always check.

Conservation

The guidelines issued by the National Association of Mining History Organisations (NAMHO) relating to the collection of mineral specimens is currently under review.

There was a time when it was considered acceptable to ‘collect enough specimens for your own needs only’.

This is no longer appropriate or acceptable. Many years of following this policy has left many mine sites decimated by mineral collectors both commercial and non-commercial.

NEVER remove mineral specimens from underground mine sites.
